This is an illustration of Ninomae Ina’Nis that I made back in January. I couldn’t have chosen a better subject than Ina, since she’s an artist herself and an inspiration for so many people, including me.
I can say that this is the best drawing I ever made, by far.
At first, I felt discouraged by the lukewarm reception that this piece had. I rewrote this post again and again… It turns out that writing is a really good way to process your feelings.
Then, by coincidence, destiny or whatever you want to call it, I got a notification from Twitter in the middle of writing this. “Someone liked 7 of your tweets”, it said. That made me look at it from another perspective: very few people like my posts, but for those people they make a difference.
This is a screenshot of my soon-to-be-released game, Note to Self. It’s funny how those messages actually became reminders to myself. Yes, my light might be small, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth it. What I need to do is temper my expectations. That one person who liked my tweets is proof that my work can resonate with people. There is a path forward.
Maybe one day I’ll go back to illustrations. For now though, I will focus on other things.
